LASER MICROPROCESSING ENABLES NEW H2020 PROJECTS

The FaiERA project results will be used for new developments at other H2020 projects: MATChING, ComMUnion, and Eco-Solar.
MATChING project (Materials & Technologies for Performance Improvement of Cooling Systems performance in Power Plants) has the aim to reduce the cooling water demand in the energy sector. A broad set of technologies are proposed acting on intake, blowdown, make-up, and evaporated water. One of the technologies that would be applied in the thermal power sector is new laser microtexturing procedures on the steam side of condenser tube bundles to promote drop-wise condensation. ComMUnion project (Net-shape joining technology
to manufacture 3D multi-materials components based on metal alloys and
thermoplastic composites) enables productive and cost effective manufacturing
of 3D metal/CFRTs multi-material components. Automatic tape placement of CFRTs
with controlled laser-assisted heating, high-speed
laser microtexturing and cleaning, on-line monitoring and inspection, and
computational multi-scale modelling will be combined in a multi-stage robot
solution for joining to provide the greatest performance joints. More information here.
Eco-Solar project (Eco-Solar Factory - 40%plus
eco-efficiency gains in the photovoltaic value chain with minimised resource
and energy consumption by closed loop systems) envisions an integrated value
chain to manufacture and implement solar panels in the most ecologic way, including
reuse of materials while manufacturing and repurposing solar panel components
at end of life stage, where laser
microprocessing technologies will be applied to solar cell repair. More information here.
